Sue Story
Sue is an experienced and highly skilled Irish dance teacher based in Dublin, with over 40 years of teaching and performing.
Known for her passion for Irish dance and dedication to her students, Sue has a deep understanding of both traditional and competitive Irish dance styles. She has trained dancers of all ages and abilities, from beginners to championship-level competitors, helping them achieve their personal and performance goals.
With a nurturing and encouraging approach, Sue creates a fun and supportive environment where students can thrive, build confidence, and develop their technique. Her expertise, combined with her love for Irish culture and dance, makes her an invaluable part of our academy.
Sue's journey into the world of Irish dance began at the tender age of three, and by the time she was twelve, she was already deep into her passion. At 12, she joined the Fay School of Irish Dancing in Clondalkin, where her teacher, Paula, would have a profound influence on her life. Paula didn’t just teach Sue the steps of Irish dance; she instilled a deep love and respect for the art, shaping Sue’s understanding of rhythm and movement. Under Paula's guidance, Sue learned to feel the music and become the heartbeat of every performance.
It was during these formative years that Sue realized that her life would always be intertwined with the world of Irish dancing. Paula inspired Sue to dream big, setting goals that once felt out of reach, but were now attainable through dedication and hard work. By the age of 13, Paula had enough confidence in Sue’s abilities to step back and allow her to teach other students. This experience not only confirmed Sue’s love for the art form but also sparked a newfound passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of dancers.
At 15, Sue transitioned to School Rince Nic Liam, where she met Lorraine, a mentor who would push Sue beyond her limits and help her grow both as a dancer and a person. Lorraine held Sue accountable for her successes and setbacks, teaching her the importance of hard work and discipline. Lorraine also introduced Sue to the Irish language, which deepened her connection to her heritage.
Under Lorraine's guidance, Sue was given the opportunity to tour Scandinavia, where she learned valuable lessons in teamwork and expanded her horizons. It was there that Sue realized the full extent of her potential—not only could she dance and teach, but she could also perform on a global stage. Lorraine’s unwavering support and belief in Sue helped her understand that nothing was beyond her reach.
Today, Sue credits both Paula and Lorraine for their lasting impact on her life and career. Through their mentorship, she’s become a passionate teacher, performer, and champion of Irish dance, passing on their wisdom and inspiration to the next generation.
